On-line Turbidity Monitoring and Analysis
The measurement of turbidity measures how these particles scatter light and is dependant on factors such as the concentration of particles in the sample and physical characteristics such as the size, shape and colour of the particles present in the sample. Sensors are available in either 90° scatter, forward scatter or backscatter options depending on the turbidity range and background colour expected.
Applications for the Mettler Toledo on-line turbidity systems include food and beverage, brewing, biotechical/pharmaceutical with the FDA compliant systems as well as chemical and petrochemical with the hazardous area certified sensor and transmitter combinations.
QuadBeam optical systems use two pairs of infared light emitting diodes and photodetectors which are pulsed in sequence. The benefits of this process are:
- Ratiometric signal processing compensates for changes in the optical properties of the emitters and detectors due to ageing and surface coating.
- Effects of colour, temperature and changes in background ambient light are virtually eliminated
